Medium’s Big Night Celebration and Fundraiser

Medium’s Big Night is a community gathering and fundraiser for Medium Photo. Attendees will enjoy the premier of a new video work by UCSD professor Michael Trigilio, complimentary drinks, catering, a DJ spinning photography-inspired music, and a projection of classic films about photography.

Medium’s Big Night is designed to blend a welcoming feeling of accessibility for all in a spirited and festival atmosphere to support the future of Medium Photo. We host this celebratory evening on Sat. April 27 from 7-10pm at the Marriott Courtyard in Old Town San Diego.

Tickets to Medium’s Big Night are included with the Big Pass and with VIP Passes. Dedicated tickets are $95 general / $75 Medium Photo members, with all proceeds supporting Medium Photo.

Screening of “Five Songs of Magic, Milk, Space” with Michael Trigilio

At 8:00pm we’ll screen a new animated film and host a brief talk back with UCSD director of the Suraj Israni Center for Cinematic Arts, Michael Trigilio. The 14-minute animated film works through a sequence of vignettes to address themes of fear, desire, wonder, and disorientation.

Attendees of the 2023 Medium Festival will remember a Q+A between Michael and Brooklyn-based artist Debi Cornwall after the screening of her film Pineland/Hollywood.

Screening of Classic Films about Photography

During the event we will silently screen classic films centered on photography. These will provide an inspired backdrop for the evening, complementing a live set by DJ APOC and complimentary drinks and hors d’oeuvres all night.

Photography Inspired Music

San Diego based DJ APOC adds inspired ambiance to the evening with music related to photography. Don’t think Simon & Garfunkel’s Kodachrome (though it may make an appearance), this is a long set of songs that evoke our favorite medium.
