Saturday, April 27 at 9:30am

Working within the expanded field of photography, Harlan Bozeman uses the camera as a tool to recontextualize known and unknown Black legacies against his encounters working in the American South. In this talk, Bozeman will present his project based in Elaine, Arkansas, and other photo-based artworks that were created in response to his experience working in the Arkansas Delta. In addition to presenting artwork from two ongoing bodies of work, Bozeman will also explain his plans to start an archive alongside the community he works with.

Registration is required to reserve your spot and receive event reminders.

About Harlan Bozeman

Harlan Bozeman is a photo-based artist who has lived throughout the American South for most of his life. His research-driven practice focuses on the erasure of Black legacies and how this exploration influences one’s personhood. Working on long-term, socially engaging projects, he positions himself as a collaborator and facilitator while producing photographs that are honest in intention and combat established narratives.

Harlan holds an MFA in Studio Art from the University of Arkansas, a BA in Journalism from DePaul University, and recently attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. His work has been featured in The Atlantic, British Journal of Photography, Der Grief, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal.

Bozeman is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor of Photography at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
