Anh-Thuy Nguyen solo exhibition, Museum of Contemporary Art, Tucson, AZ

Anh-Thuy Nguyen is the 2023 Second Sight Award recipient from Medium Photo, who will present a lecture about her work at the Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla at 7:00pm Thursday, April 6, 2023.

As a Vietnamese-American artist, Anh-Thuy Nguyen’s primary artistic source material for the last decade has been her personal history and experiences as a female immigrant. Through her artwork, Nguyen investigates her cultural and identity as well as her migration story through photography, video, installation and performance.

 
 
 

Second Sight Award

The Second Sight Award is given to a participating artist in the annual Medium Review, based on nominations from participating reviewers. Anh-Thuy Nguyen is a Vietnamese born, Tucson, AZ based artist who was nominated for the award by Jonathan Blaustein (Antidote Retreat), Kevin Miller (Independent Curator), Shana Lopes (San Francisco Museum of Modern Art), Alyssa Coppelman (Harpers Magazine), Elena Gross (Berkeley Art Center), Joey Herring (City of Peoria, AZ) and Guusje Sanders (Institute of Contemporary Art San Diego).

Limited Edition Fine Print

As part of the award, Anh-Thuy has produced a limited edition fine print that will be distributed to Medium Photo members at the 2023 Festival. For those not attending the 2023 festival Medium Photo can arrange a shipment for the cost of packing and shipping alone.

The 2023 limited edition print is a unique 7”x5” silver gelatin print. It is made using grains of jasmine rice printed directly only the photographic paper in the artist’s darkroom. No two prints are identical.
