Exploring Photography in Arizona
November 14-19, 2023
Join Medium for five days of travel across southern Arizona to visit artist’s studios, galleries, and go behind the scenes in some of the renowned institutions who collect and exhibit contemporary photography.
A $500 deposit is required to reserve your space. The total cost of this five day experience is $2000, including daily hosted dinners and ground transportation throughout the five days of travel.

Nov. 14-17, 2023
Phoenix, AZ
Our first two days will spent in the greater Phoenix metro area, visiting artist studios including Granville Carroll, Claire Warden, and David Emitt Adams. We go behind the scenes at Lisa Sette Gallery and Northlight Gallery, and meet with members of the Arizona Photography Alliance. Hosted dinners will provide a relaxing close to each day. We will depart for Tucson on November 17 after a tour at Fine Art Framing, a business founded by photographer Richard Laugharn that specializes in museum quality framing of photography.
Participants are encouraged to stay with Medium Photo at the FOUND:RE hotel in central Phoenix.
Nov. 17-19, 2023
Tucson, AZ
We arrive in Tucson in time for lunch in the city’s historic downtown. While in Tucson we will visit with artists Alanna Airitam and Anh-Thuy Nguyen, and enjoy a special behind the scenes look at the Center for Creative Photography led by CCP staff and artist Mark Klett. We’ll visit with artist Kate Breakey at Etherton Gallery, and enjoy a cocktail reception in a private home. Guests will be offered options for lodging and enjoy hosted dinners with Medium Photo staff and board members.
Participants are encouraged to stay with Medium Photo at The Tuxon Hotel near downtown Tucson.
Transportation
Attendees will meet in downtown Phoenix on the evening of Tuesday, November 14. Medium will provide van service to all of our daily events from Phoenix to Tucson and back again. Group travel with Medium Photo is encouraged, though guests may choose to travel independently or depart from Tucson if preferred. Return travel to Phoenix is provided the morning of Sunday, November 19.
Travel to and from Arizona is not included in event registration. Lodging is the responsibility of each guest at the hotels listed.
Accommodations and Meals
We will offer a preferred lodging option in Phoenix and Tucson (see links above), allowing the group to maintain our ambitious daily schedule of ground travel. Medium Photo will host dinners for participants in Phoenix and Tucson, at locations that are mindful of special dietary needs.
Trip Leader
Medium Photo’s executive director scott b. davis will lead this five-day trip, building on decades of travel throughout Arizona and his own photographs made across the state. Scott’s work with photography in the Sonoran Desert is the subject of a Radius Books monograph scott b. davis: sonora, published in 2021. His knowledge of the region and contacts within the photographic community serve as inspiration and conduit for Arizona’s unique creative character.
